When Jane Hurley tells her parents she's engaged to be married, they are overjoyed. But while Jane says she wants a simple ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Hurley insist no expense be spared for The Catered Affair. Academy Award winners Bette Davis and Ernest Borgnine star as the Hurleys, who are determined to impress their future in-laws and wow the neighborhood--even if it means spending everything they've saved for their future... even if it makes the bride (Debbie Reynolds) miserable over a lavish event she doesn't want. Based on the live-television play by multiple Academy Award winner Paddy Chayefsky and adapted by Gore Vidal.
